Privacy policy

Paper Alibi is a mystery game you can play offline. The game has no accounts, and your progress is saved on your device. The game itself sends nothing about you or how you play to the developer.
- Ads, only when you ask. If you run out of hints you can choose to watch a video ad for more. Ads are served by Google AdMob. When you open the hints card, Google's ads software may collect your device's advertising ID and app set ID, your IP address (which gives an approximate location), how you interact with the ad, and diagnostic information, to show and measure ads and prevent fraud. This data is sent to Google encrypted. If you never open the hints card, Google's ads software collects nothing. See how Google uses this data.
- Your choices. Where the law requires it (for example in Europe), Google asks for your consent before any ad, and you can change your answer in Settings → Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
- One optional purchase. "Unlimited hints" is bought through Google Play, which handles the payment. The game never sees your payment details; it only remembers on your device that you own it.
- No accounts, no sign-in. The developer never learns your name, your email or anything else that says who you are.
- On your device: your closed cases, stars and rank, how each case went the first time (threads used and broken, hints, tries and time), the days you closed the daily case, your hints and your settings (sound, music, vibration) are saved in the game's private storage. Uninstalling the game deletes them from the phone. Reset progress in Settings clears your cases and stars at any time. Your hints, the purchase and your settings stay as they are.
- Android backup. If backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android may keep a copy of the game's saved data in your own Google account's backup, so your progress can come back after a reinstall or on a new phone. The developer cannot see that copy.
- Permissions: vibration (haptics), internet access for the ad and the purchase, and the ones Google's ad and billing software adds: the advertising ID, Google Play billing, basic phone state, and keeping a video ad running.
- Deleting data. The developer holds no data about you. To remove what is on your phone, uninstall the game. For data held by Google, including an Android backup, use your Google account's privacy controls.
Children: the game is meant for players aged 13 and over. It does not knowingly collect information from children.
Early test versions of the game (before 1.0.0) have no ads or purchase; for those, nothing leaves your device.
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published at this same address with a new date.
